How to batch email notifications at specific times per day with Inbox Pause

New research shows that turning off email notifications and checking email three or four times a day can help you feel less stressed and get more done–while still responding to messages just as quickly. Sounds great – and easy, right? But in practice, it isn’t easy at all. A lot of work touches email, so it’s easy to get sidetracked in your Inbox when you’re trying to get something else done. Inbox Pause can help address these issues by giving you control of when messages arrive in your Inbox. You can even whitelist certain email addresses, domains, and words if you want more important emails to get through while paused.

Inbox Pause Schedules are a Pro Subscription plan feature. You can upgrade your Gmail account or Outlook account for access.

How to batch email notifications at specific times per day

1
Tap the  Menu Icon on the top left corner of our Android app.

2
Tap  Inbox Pause.

3
Tap Batched Delivery.

4
Input the times you want to be notified of all the emails that have come in while your Inbox is paused, and select which days you want to apply it to. Tap the Plus (+) Icon to add more times. And, tap  Add Batched Delivery Set if you need to add times for an additional different set of days.

5
Adjust the Pause Settings as needed, enabling or disabling and customizing any of the following features:
Auto-reply message: Set up an automatic response to any recipients who may email you while your Inbox Pause letting them know when you expect to get back to them.
Delivery exceptions: Whitelist messages sent with high importance, specific email addresses (e.g. supervisors, execs, etc.), domains (e.g. important clients, your teammates, etc.), and/or words (e.g. "urgent," "time-sensitive," etc.) so that you still get the important emails while your Inbox is paused.
Hide label (Gmail only): While your Inbox is paused, incoming emails will get stored in the Inbox-Paused-[Date] label that we automatically generate for you until you unpause your Inbox. If you're still having trouble avoiding looking at the number go up on that folder, you can enable this setting to bury the label so it's less distracting.

6
Once you've got your settings configured just the way you like it, tap Turn On Batched Delivery to confirm. You'll get an email letting you know your Inbox pause schedule has been activated, and you can unpause at any time via the link in that email--even if the device doesn't have Boomerang installed!
